Located in the southeastern corner of Algeria near the Libyan border, Tadrart is one of the most visually spectacular regions of the Sahara. Known as "Tadrart Rouge" because of its deep red sand dunes, the area features towering sandstone cliffs, natural arches, narrow canyons, and sculpted rock formations shaped by millions of years of erosion. The region contains thousands of prehistoric rock paintings and engravings dating back 12,000 years, providing evidence that the Sahara was once a much greener environment inhabited by wildlife such as giraffes, cattle, and elephants.
